Well, I guess for the time being, to be safe, I’ll be printing both sides of the cards so as to avoid the confusion caused by last night’s last-minute redirect to the front 9. I apologize again for the early mis-reporting of the MoneyBall win. Congrats to the lucky winner Dan Palmerino!

The start and end of the round was pretty nice, weather-wise. It was that 5-minute period of gale force winds and downpouring rain that put a bit of a damper on everyones’ game! With any luck, that will be the worst that we see this season. Fingers crossed!

This week saw 4 of 16 players’ handicaps going up slightly. As a group, our hardest hole once again was the 6th, playing 1 ½ strokes over par on average. The easiest hole was the first, playing just under 1 1/3 strokes over par. Averaging our hole scores across the group, we were 15.437 strokes over par for 9 holes, a slight increase over last week.

Pete had the misfortune of finding Mark on a great night, as he fired a 2-over-par 38 holding Pete to just 1 ½ points on the night. The only blemishes in his round coming as the weather turned on us at the 7th and 8th holes. Great round Mark!

Glenn was the second-highest point earner on the night, jumping out to a 3-up lead over Steve after 4 holes. Steve fought back valiantly, taking the next 2 holes to get to just 1-down thru 6, but then Glenn ran the table for the 6 ½-2½ win.

This week saw four matches ended in 5 ½-3½ scores, with the bonus point going to the winner in all 4 cases.
First up was Dave in a wire-to-wire win over Bette. It took Bette a bit to get warmed up as Dave jumped out to a 3-up thru 3. After finding her legs she managed to get back to just 1-down but couldn’t get any closer, giving Dave the 2-up win.
Next, we have another wire-to-wire winning match between Tommy and Bob. It was Tom taking up the Mohsinger mantle jumping out to a 4-up lead thru 4. Bob wasn’t about to roll over though, as he went on to win the next 3 holes in-a-row to cut the match back to just a 1-up lead. A win at the 8th hole clinched the match for Tommy while they split the final hole to close out the match.
In a match that was perhaps closer than it looked, Dan Fusco birdied the 2nd hole to go 1-up on Brian. Another win at the 3rd did the trick as the remainder of the match was either back-and-forth wins or tied holes giving Dan the 2-up win.
In the last of the 5½-3½ matches, it was looking like a close one, as Tim took the lead at the 2nd hole, and then Jim squared it up and took the lead over the next 2 holes. But it was all Jim over the next 3 holes, as he took the match to 3-up thru 6. It stayed there for a bit as they split the next 2 holes, until Tim got 1 more back at the final hole to finish 2-down.

The remaining 2 matches ended in draws, starting out with Sue taking an early 3-up lead thru 4 holes over Andy. The next 3 holes went Andy’s way to square the match up thru 7. Sue took the 8th hole to go 1-up, while Andy managed to take the final hole to close out the tied match and split the bonus point.
Finally, in the battle of the youngsters, it was Vincent out of the gate going 1-up at the first. Dan P. held him there as they tied the next 2 holes. A win by Dan at the 4th got the match back to all square, but then Vincent took 2 ½ of the next 3 points to go 2-up on Dan. Vincent struggled a bit on the final 2 holes to let Dan back into the match as they ended on a tie with Dan taking the bonus point.

We lost more players to the “Other” watch, as Jim, Vincent and Dan F. fell victim to the dreaded number. The field of players with no others is dropping quickly with just Mark, Dan P. and Andy remaining.
