First, as promised, the results of the MoneyBall drawing. Drumroll please….. Taking the cash with the first ball drawn, #5, is Bob with the only net birdie on the 14th hole! Pay the man Tim!

This week got off to a bit of a rough start, with a bit of rain dampening the first few holes for folks. Providing further evidence that the handicaps are starting to “normalize”, 12 players handicaps remained the same following this round, with 2 players going up, and just 1 going lower. Once again, no single player won more than 5 ˝ holes. Congrats to Mark for posting the first, and so far, only, sub-40 round at the new course.  Given the conditions this week, this may qualify him as a “mudder😊  Nice round Mark!

I’d also like to welcome Glen Kreig to our sub ranks.  Thanks for filling in this week Glen.  Hopefully, we can get you out here with us again this season.  Take a look at the scheduled absences list (found on the schedule page), and let me know if you see a date that you can fill in. Thanks again!

Now for the matches.

Four matches ended up at 5 ˝ - 3 ˝. Starting with Mark and Matt, the match began with halves on the first 2 holes, followed by Mark taking the next 3 holes to go 3-up. Matt took 2 ˝ points over the last 4 holes to hold Mark to the 5 ˝ point win. Way to hang in there Matt.  You were up against this week’s juggernaut!

Next up, we had Dan F., and Tom. With 5 tied holes, and the match all square on 4 of the holes, it was Dan prevailing here as Tom’s only full point came at the treacherous par-5 13th hole.  Nice match!

Tim was the wire-to-wire victor over Andy, jumping out to an early 3-up lead through the first 3 holes, and never trailing.  Well done Tim!

Bette and Sue had a back-and-forth close one, with each player having a 1-up lead at some point prior to squaring up the match at the 16th. It was Bette coming down the home stretch for the win as she took both of the final 2 points for the win.  Nice job, and a great match!

Two matches resulted in 5-4 wins, starting with Gloria in another back-and-forth match with Dan PDan led at the 1st and 3rd holes, while Gloria squared up the match at the 2nd and 4th. It was at the 4th that Gloria went on a tear, winning 4 holes-in-a-row to clinch the win, as Dan went on to win the final 2 holes.  Nice match!

Next was the match-up of Pete and Glen, another close one with 4 lead changes and the match all square 4 different times, including coming into the final hole. At the end, it was a 1-stroke difference between and tie, and the outright win for Glen.  Nice match gentlemen!

The first of our two tied matches was Jim vs Dave. There were 3 lead changes, with Dave having a 1-up lead coming to the final hole. Jim had just enough steam left to take that hole and force the tie. Well fought!

Finally, Brian and Bob started out battling, with Bob 1-up after 2 holes, and Brian fighting back to go 1-up 2 holes later. A win for Bob at the 15th brought the match back to all square, where it remained for the rest of the match.  Another well fought match!

Mark continues his no others streak, and based on his play this week, shows no signs of faltering.  Keep it up Mark!

League Standings

Dan Fusco is flirting with a triple-win season, as he takes over the lead in the standings here, as well as the Hacker Cup and Knockout Champ competitions below.  Meanwhile, Gloria held on to her 2nd place spot, followed by Brian breaking out of the 4th place tie with Dan Palmerino, moving into solo 3rd. With the disappointing loss to Tim, Andy took a big 4 spot drop from 1st to 4th. Dan Palmerino, fell to solo 5th from that previous tie with Brian.

Hacker Cup

Dan Fusco continues to lead the race for the Hacker Cup. Dave made a move up one slot into 2nd, passing Dan P, while Gloria and Jim swapped positions, as Gloria continues her climb, moving into 4th place. Play-offs are looming, just 4 match-weeks away…

The Numbers:

NEW for 2023

Knockout Champion

Dan Fusco Continues his reign as the Knockout Champion, once again outlasting everyone. Dave and Dan Palmerino both gave him a run for his money though, as Dave made it to the 8th hole, and Dan P took Dan F to a tiebreak.

Eagles and Birdies

No one recorded a shot under par this week.  Possibly owing to the weather.

Closest-to-the-pin

Once again, it was Dan Fusco taking the sharpshooter award, for 2-in-a-row, knocking it to a tidy 9’ 4”.  Great shot Dan!
