First of all, congratulations go out to Pete and Sue, on the birth of their grandson Tristan. Oddly enough, he weighed exactly the same as I did at that age, I think I was an inch taller though 😊 (can you really call it “taller” at that age, since we aren’t really standing up yet?) Anyway, you missed a great night of weather, as the skies were friendly and waited until Dave and I left the restaurant before they opened up on us a bit.
7 players saw their handicaps go down following this week’s round, a testament to the good play that was to be found out there this week! 2 players’ handicap went up, while the remaining 4 stayed unchanged. 6 players shot better than their average on the front 9, while another 6 shot worse, and 1 player shot his average exactly.
Now for the matches.
Once again, Dan Fusco was the top point-earner on the night, coming out firing with a birdie at the first hole. Dan won the straight-up match 7 ½ - 1 ½ , with Joe’s only full point coming at the 4th hole, as Dan put up an uncharacteristic double there. Despite this, Dan tied his been score of the season.
Joe may have been feeling the added burden of pulling double-duty by matching both Dan and Andy as he fared only slightly better against Andy, with their match ending in a 6 ½ - 2 ½ win for Andy, who posted his best score of the season for the 2nd week in a row.
In a match pitting neighbors against one another, Glenn was not very neighborly, allowing Brian ½ point each on just 4 holes, winning the match 7-2. Judging by his scores thus far, I would say that if you are scheduled to play Glenn, it may be best to hope that you are playing on the back 9, rather than the front, as there is a 10-12 stroke difference in his scores. I think the back-9 is in your head Glenn 😊
Both Jim and Bob also posted their best rounds of the season. Unfortunately for Bob, Jim was just plain on fire, shooting the lowest net of the night on his way to a wire-to-wire, 6 ½ - 2 ½ win. Excellent round Jim!
While Bob didn’t fare well against Jim, as a card match against Mark, he was able to hold Mark to 3 ½ points. Mark’s birdie at the first gave him the early 1-up lead, but, Bob got it back to all-square quickly at the 2nd. From there he took 4 ½ points to finish out with the 5 ½ - 3 ½ win. Mark may be the only one of us lamenting Tristan’s early arrival 😉
This brings us to a few of the Family Feud matches. Starting with Team Mohsinger, it was Bette getting out to an early lead over Tom, getting to 1-up through 4 holes before he was able to get back to all-square at the 5th hole. Splitting the 6th hole maintained the tie, and then Bette went on a 3-hole run to take the 6-3 win! Nice round folks!
The other Tristan-affected match found Dan Palmerino in a card match with cousin Dan Fusco. Fortunately for Dan F, his score was not affected by Dan P, as young Dan also shot his best score of the season, to come out on top in the hole count 5-4.
Last but not least, the perennial father-in-law/son-in-law battle between Dave and Tim was fought to a draw, with each player leading at least once, and the match being all square a total of 6 times with just 3 tied holes! Talk about a slug-fest! Tim was able to obtain some measure of victory by edging Dave out by 1 stroke for the bonus point. Well fought fellas!
Mark continues his season-long run of no others!
Dan Fusco further consolidated his hold on the top spot in the standings here, with his 8 ½ total points. Andy held on to 2nd place, followed by Jim, moving up from 6th to 3rd as Bob fell out of the top 5 into 6th place. Not seeing any action tonight didn’t hurt Gloria, as she retained her 4th place position. Dan Palmerino also held onto his previous 5th place spot. Next week starts the throwaways…
Dan Fusco, Dan Palmerino retained their 1 and 2 positions here, while Jim turned the top-3 spots into a family affair, moving up from 4th to 3rd, knocking Dave down to 4th. Andy moved up into the top 5 while Matt fell from 5th to 7th place. Just 1 more week remains in the regular season and the re-seeding for the play-offs!

NEW for 2023
Knockout Champion
Dan Fusco still leads the season here. Jim took top points of 5 in the slightly diluted field. Jim, you get to hang onto those gloves for another week. Sorry Tom, we missed the hand-off this week. |
The first hole played like the easiest hole on the front that it is, handing out birdies like nobody’s business. The first 2 groups had 1 each, and the last group carded 2..
#1 – Mark, Dan F., Jim, Glenn
#3 – Jim
Jim won his first CTP of the season, following up last week’s 3 footer
from Dan, with one of his won! Nice shot Jim!
