Results August 5, 2022

 

Wow!  I think that was the hottest, muggiest night so far this year!  Props to all for surviving the heat!

There were some big points taken out there, as all of the winners also took the full bonus point. The only tied match, Tim and Tom, saw them split the bonus point. Tom held the lead most of the way, assuring at least a tie through the 7th hole, but Tim put on a strong finish, winning the final two holes to get the match to even.  Nice finish Tim!

At the other end of the spectrum, not surprisingly, shooting a net 29, Bette was the top point-winner, showing Dillon, no mercy in the 7 ½ - 1 ½ win.  Sorry, Dillon, you ran into a buzz-saw out there.  Excellent round Bette!

Next up, Jeanne shot just 1-over her handicap, to win 7-2 over Sue. Sue, in most cases, you were just 1-stroke away from points on any given hole.  So close!

The heat seemed to be a factor in the next two matches, as Bob and Dan definitely struggled against Gloria and Matt, who were a combined 3-under net, compared to Bob and Dan, who were a combined 18-over net. The scores here were 6 ½ - 1 ½.

Marty came out strong against Mike Fusco, leading through the first 4 holes, before Mike got it back to even at the 5th.  Having none of that, Marty threw down 4 pars in-a-row to finish out the match 6-3.

In the only match with no tied holes, Dave and Andy slugged it out, squaring the match 3 separate times. Coming to the final hole all-square, a double-shank by Andy handed Dave the 5-4 win!  Nice round Dave!

In the match with the MOST tied holes, Mike Murphy just wouldn’t let Brian in the door, as he either led, or kept the match all squared though-out, fending of Brian at the last hole to avoid a tie, finishing with the 5-4 win. Way to hang tough Mike!

The battle at the top continues, as Dave and Tom swapped places, sending Dave to the top this week.  Marty and Gloria retained their 3rd and 4th place positions, while Bette moved back up the ladder from 8th to 5th, knocking Andy down to a tie for 6th with Tim.

Hacker Cup

After week two of the play-offs, it’s Dave and Tim in a tie for first, as Tim moved up from 4th place to join Pop-in-law at the top. Tom is making his way toward the top, getting to 3rd place just 550 points behind our leaders. At 500 points behind him we find Mike Fusco in 4th place, followed by Andy, falling from 2nd to 5th.

Keep in mind that at the end of the play-offs, everyone will drop their lowest point week. Until then, everyone’s lowest is a zero, so, there could be a significant shift after that last week.

Virtual Team Competition

Previously tied for 3rd place, team Tim/Tom tumbled to the top, followed by Gloria/Brian in 2nd place.  Mark/Dave fell to 3rd, while former leaders Andy/Bob dropped to 4th place.  One more week to go, to see who will square off against Jim/Pete (mystery sub), for the team championship.

For the first time in a while, we had 3 players in contention for the prize.  First, Matt, getting just inside the limit at 24’ 4”.  Then, Tom, at almost half that distance, only to be outdone by his favorite person in the whole world, Bette, knocking it to 8’ 11”  Nice shot Bette!
