It sounds like I probably got wetter at the wedding than you all did at the golf course. It was certainly very threatening out there at times starting around 3pm or-so. Hopefully, it didn’t affect anyone’s game, by say, causing them to lose their grip on their clubs during a swing…
Handicaps are still adjusting a bit, trying to settle into this season’s rhythm.
We start off with three matches going 6-3, as Jim, Steve Lockwood and Dave prevailed over Susan, Sue and Mark, each taking the bonus point as well for a tidy 7-point night. Thank you to Jim for this action shot of Sue from the last hole. Great form Sue, nice high finish, and with a smile too!
Next up were the 5 ½ - 3 ½ matches, as Tim and Bette battled it out with 5 tried holes, 2 at the front and 3 at the back, while Tim dominated the middle holes 3-1 on his way to a 2-under net for the night! Tim also remains the only undefeated player without a tie so far this season (methinks someone is getting in some extra playing time). He is followed in the undefeated category by Steve Lockwood, Tommy and Andy, each with just 1 tied match, and, Marty, with 2 ties.
In the low handicap matchup of the night, Marty and Dan started out slugging back and forth, and just as Dan took the lead at the 5th hole, Marty turned it up a notch, to take the next 3 holes to clinch the win, and post the other 2-under net for the night! Finally, in this score range, in the card match of Tommy against Bob, it was Bob holding his own, leading 3 ½ - 2 ½ thru 6 holes, but, struggling toward the end, failing to garner another point from his long-time adversary Tom. Nice round gentlemen!
The remaining matches of Steve Fusco vs Tommy, (playing straight up), and Pete vs Grace, ended in ties, with both matches having 3 tied holes as well, and the bonus point being won by Tom and Grace by just 1 stroke. Very close indeed!
So, just for fun, I did a ball-draw to see who won the virtual money-ball this week. The first ball up was #6, so, the 15th hole. We had Dave, Bette, Pete and Grace all in the running there, each with a net 2 birdie. On to the second ball, #2, for the 11th hole, where Grace, with her only other net 2 for and eagle, survived the others. Nice job Grace!
I think it is time to go into “other-watch” mode, as we have 4 players now, (Marty, Mark, Dan and Andy), who have yet to make worse than double-bogey on a hole. Let’s see who can hold out the longest.
(Editor’s note) Before getting into the standings, I need to set the record straight, and thank Dave for spotting this. There was an error in the “Sum of Scores” tab on the main spreadsheet, which resulted in incorrect calculations that affected only the Hacker Cup standings for the first 2 weeks. The issue has been fixed, and the standings have been corrected back from the first week.
Leading the way tonight were Tim and Marty, with their 2-under net 34s. This moved Marty into the top spot, nudging Tommy down one position, while Tim moved up into the #3 spot. Still plenty of golf to be played folks, it’s all about consistency.
38– Marty
42 – Mark
44 – Dan, Jim, Tim
34 – Tim, Marty
36 – Dave
37 – Tom, Steve L
Just 2 birdies tonight, both coming in that low-handicapper matchup between Marty and Dan.
#13 – Dan
#16 – Marty
#5 – Tom
Jim hit a nice one into the every-difficult 15th for the win! Nice shot Jim!
