This never gets old… what a great night for golf! Perfect weather once again. These conditions, perhaps paired with playing on the slightly easier front 9, led to 7 players improving their handicaps, while only 2 went the other direction.
We had a somewhat diminished field, with only 2 subs filling in as Pete and Sue were off having fun elsewhere, while Grace and Steve Fusco remain on the D/L, joined, temporarily we hope, by Steve Lockwood.
Speaking of subs, our top 2 winners came from our subs, Dan R. and Gloria, as Dan put a hurting on Tim, who was clearly not on his A-game, managing to narrowly avoid a shut-out, scoring his ˝ point at the 7th hole. “Rough” night Tim?
In a last-minute match change-up, Gloria fired a net 30 on her way to besting Dan F., 6 ˝ - 2 ˝. The good news for the rest of us is, Gloria’s handicap has now dropped 2 strokes. Small solace to those who have had to face her already, I know.
Next up, in a 3-way, “vintage” Hacker match-up, Tom pulled double-duty, with his scheduled match against Dave, and card-match against Bob. In what seems like a rare event, in which he was giving strokes in one match, while receiving strokes in the other, he managed to win both by the same score of 5 ˝ - 3 ˝. Well done Tommy!
The remaining matches were all 5-4 wins, starting with Susan vs. Bette, in a match that saw both players shoot better than their handicaps. It was a close one, with 4 tied holes, and Bette taking the bonus point by 1 stroke. Nice round ladies!
Finally, in the low-handicap 4-some of Jim vs Mark, and Marty vs Andy, it was the latter, higher handicapper, in each match that prevailed. Both matches were very close, with 4 tied holes between Jim and Mark, and 6 ties between Marty and Andy. Everyone brought some form of their “A”-game, as, with a combined handicap of 14, the 4-some was just 7 over par! Well played gentlemen!
Marty continues with no “others”, and, based on his play thus far this season, I don’t foresee one coming.
Now that some folks are in a position to start tossing out low-point nights, we should start to see some big movement in the standings. Jim and Marty are still in the top 2 spots, but, Tommy has made a move up from 6th place into 3rd, while Steve L. and Tim fell from 3rd and 4th into a 2-way tie for 4th, and, an absent Steve F. continues his fall, dropping from 5th to 6th.
The regular season comes to a close with Marty taking the top seed going into the playoffs, followed by Jim and Tom holding on to the #2 and #3 seed positions. With a last-minute move, Andy and Bette jumped from their previous 8th and 9th place positions, into the 4th and 5th seeds, pushing Tim and Bob each down on spot into 6th and 7th, respectively. Let the playoffs begin!
